Publicado el 09/08/2019

The RBI Barahona women’s softball team, endorsed by the Fundación Central Barahona, the social arm of the Consorcio Azucarero Central (CAC), participated in the Women’s Softball World Cup to be held from August 11 to 14 at the Dogertown sports complex in Vero Beach, Florida.

The Dominican team is the only representative of Latin America and will compete for the championship crown against eight other countries.

The female conglomerate is made up of 13 native players from the Uvilla communities of the Bahoruco province; La Guázara, Cachón and Vicente Noble, all belonging to the Barahona province, while the remaining players are from Las Matas de Farfán, Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo. All actively participated in the fifth edition of RBI Barahona, held in the first five months of this year.

The girls went on to the final after facing the teams from Uganda and Puerto Rico, during the RBI Regional Tournament, held at the end of last June, where they were winners.

The RBI Barahona women’s softball team is accompanied by its coach Santo Dotel, a delegation of technicians and coaches from Major League Baseball (MLB), Leydi Paulino, from the Softball Federation and Mercedes Andujar, in charge of RBI Barahona, through the Fundación Central Barahona.

The RBI (Reviving Baseball in Interior Cities) program began in 1989 in the United States and was established in the Dominican Republic for fifteen years. The same has been carried out in Barahona thanks to the contributions and commitment of the Consorcio Azucarero Central and its shareholders, covering all operating expenses of the program, as well as sports clothing and equipment, so that it does not represent any cost for athletes or their relatives.
