Consorcio Azucarero Central and Fundación Central Barahona fight COVID-19 in the Enriquillo region

In order to provide protection to service personnel and help patients infected with the Coronavirus in the provinces of Barahona, Bahoruco and Independencia, the Consorcio Azucarero Central, through its social arm Fundación Central Barahona, made an important donation of medical supplies to the Jaime Sánchez Hospital, the Provincial Health Directorate, the Fifth Infantry Brigade of the Army of the Dominican Republic and the Civil Defense of Barahona, entities that work hard to mitigate the virus among the inhabitants of the region.

Karla Rojas, director of the FCB and Julio Fernández, communications superintendent of CAC, welcomed those present and delivered 10,500 N95 and surgical masks, 42,000 pairs of gloves, 450 disposable medical protective suits, 100 gallons of disinfectant gel , 50 gallons of chlorine and two trucks with fuel included to transport the laboratory workers and thus speed up the diagnosis of the tests, a key element of detection.

“We know that these are complex times for our country and one way to face this new reality is with the help that we can provide to institutions like the ones that each of you represent. It is time to join forces, without political parties, all focused on the population. We urge that more companies join and, as a great family, develop more actions “, said Fernández when addressing those present.

By his side, Mrs. Rojas said: “It is time to be in solidarity, and we are honored to be able to support you. Together, we will able to face this health crisis. ”

The Provincial Director of Health, Dr. Amelia Figuereo Féliz, along with Mrs. Rosa Ariza Velázquez, Regional Director of the Enriquillo Regional Service, expressed their gratitude for the interest of the company in cooperating with the delivery of these medical materials and vehicles, necessary to provide an optimal service to citizens while taking care of the medical staff in charge.

Wilson Castillo González, commander of the V Infantry Brigade of the R.D. and Augusto Moreta, Regional Director of Civil Defense, expressed their gratitude, praising the aid measures that the company has been carrying out for the benefit of their communities, given the difficult situation in the country, and the expressed desire to protect the members of both institutions so that they can continue to support the citizen order in a safe way.

The activity was developed in the area of the consorcio’s Country Club, located in Villa Central, and was attended by the governor of the province, Mr. Carlos Manuel Florián, who also chairs the Provincial Committee for Prevention, Mitigation and Response of Barahona ( CPMR). Similarly, the outgoing mayor of Barahona, Mr. Noel Suberví, the newly elected, Mr. Milton Fernández, as well as other personalities of the region and some of the main executives of CAC.
